Situated along a picturesque block of the historic boulevard, Humboldt 22 rescues a neglected vintage graystone and infuses it with a colorful, richly-layered interior. No “developer gray” here - this is a home that celebrates authentic, time-worn texture and deep natural colors.
Via Chicago served as both architect -and- developer on this extensive gut-renovation, after acquiring a stalled project that had become a neighborhood eyesore. Original metal railings were salvaged from a brush pile in the back yard, and installed at the rebuilt entry steps. A stair that had confusingly been set within one of the valuable bay windows was relocated, opening up space for a ground floor dining room and upstairs family room. The main spaces flow naturally from one to the next, defined by a series of object-like millwork rather than traditional walls. Via Chicago worked with Floritelli Cucine - a renowned Italian manufacturer making their first appearance in the Chicago market - to deliver a crisp new kitchen with enviable detailing. A wide opening was created between the kitchen and a new rear addition, celebrating a 130-year-old triple-wythe wall of Chicago common brick at the heart of the home. Upstairs, a new primary suite feels as though it was built within the dense treetops - miles away from the bustling street life just outside the front door.
